Company’s food drive challenge sees donation of over 1,000 items to the Mississauga Food Bank
MISSISSAUGA, ON, November 25, 2013 – With the holidays fast approaching, Summitt Energy believes it is important to look within your communities to lend support and help those less fortunate. In Mississauga, where Summitt’s head office is located, the Mississauga Food Bank is an important community institution serving 59,000 clients each month, 51 per cent of them children. Seeing this obvious need, Summitt Energy’s customer service department organized an intra-departmental challenge which resulted in over 1,000 non-perishable food items being collected and donated to The Mississauga Food Bank.
Employees were split into six teams and challenged to collect the most food. Employees were given raffle tickets for each item donated that were entered into a draw for various prizes at the end of the competition “Our staff embraced this initiative in such an enthusiastic way. It proved to be a wonderful way to encourage teamwork and enhance employee morale,” said Tim McDermid, Director of Customer Service.
The Mississauga Food Bank’s goal of “Fighting Hunger… Feeding Hope” is achieved by serving 2.8 million meals each year through their network of member agencies. All donations are used to provide nutritious food to hungry children, families and seniors in the Mississauga area. Through generous donations, the food bank is able to work with dozens of local hunger-fighting agencies in order to provide nutrition to those in need.
Summitt Energy believes strongly in supporting local communities where it operates. Its donation to the Mississauga Food Bank is just one of the many initiatives that Summitt has undertaken in support of community organizations promoting everything from healthy and active lifestyles, youth athletics and environmental stewardship.
